Born 21st April 1948, Rachel Else Confino (Liky) was the first child of Lore Confino. Rachel spent the first part of her life living in Tel-Aviv, Israel with her parents, soon joined a little brother, Moshe and a baby sister, Ruth. From the photos, it would seem that the young Rachel loved looking after others, and enjoyed a smooth transition from caring for her collection of dolls, to helping to look after her younger siblings! Rachel was particularly close to her cousin Liora (Liyor) Confino too.
In 1953 the Confino family moved back to Wembley Park in England to seek help for Moshe, who was later diagnosed with autism. There Rachel gained another baby brother to play with, David.
The growing Confino family seemed to settle into England well and Rachel was sent to Walsh Manor boarding school where she appeared to enjoy herself immensely, receiving frequent letters and presents from her family all over the world. The Confino family adored Rachel's imaginative drawings and sweet letters, insisting that she write as often as possible.
Tragically, on 29th June 1956, Rachel passed away suddenly and without explanation. It was only at the post mortem that it was discovered that Rachel had an enlarged heart. Rachel's grave is in the Hoop Lane Cemetery in London.
The Confino family was devastated by the loss of such a joyful, caring child and Lore in particular, was distraught. Fortunately the close family pulled together and moved forwards. Rachel is affectionately remembered by all who knew her.
