My dear Fisheaters,
I am back in London and I think that I could always have stayed in Broadstairs it was so beautiful. I can now even milk cows. Once a cow kicked and after that I was always afraid. Yesterday I had an upset stomach and it was awful...But now I have recovered.
The weather is wonderful and it is wonderfully warm. We often go to the Heath which is like a small wood. It is lovely there and full of people. Everyone tells me I speak English well after the little time I have been here. I had an excellent school report and I will send you a copy in my next letter. I can’t send it yet because Tante Margot has got it at the moment. How pleased Papa would have been. I go to the market here. This is very interesting, like an auction. I look forward to it. Auntie Eileen has invited my two Headmistresses for the weekend and they are coming today. I am not looking forward to it because it reminds me too much of school.
I don’t feel like feel like going back to school but I am not the only one. I have to go for walks and rest after meals. At present I am knitting myself a nice white pullover. I need white here. I can’t wear my hats any more they are much too tight. Yesterday I got two new hats – one is made of straw. Everyone wears straw hats. I also learned croquet. It is quite easy to play but needs practice. In the summer I shall learn tennis and in the summer holidays, if everything stays as it is, I shall have riding lessons. I hope Oswald can come for the holidays.
He was very happy with Auntie Eileen’s visit. On 3rd May I return to school. We have to wear awful hats next term. I have read a wonderful book ‘Jayne Eyre.’ It is a classic. About every English person knows it. I don’t know much news. Is Hellmut in Frankfurt? Do you see him often? Auntie Eileen is out to look after poor people in Hampstead. She goes every Friday. In summer we wear long cotton stockings. We wear the same in winter. Auntie Eileen, when she saw the colour said: “It could make me ill.” A greenish grey brown. Something like that.
Are you well? Did you have a nice Easter? Please give my love to all acquaintances.
Much love and kisses
LORE
