Dear Rita and Lex,
Thanks for your reminder of time passing.
You certainly don’t let grass grow under your feet and are blessed with good health to travel the world. Your ‘escape’ to warmer climes in Queensland combined with a reunion of Lex’s school friends would have been memorable and enjoyable. I can imagine how it must have felt. My experience of this nature happened some years ago in the States at a reunion with friends and school mates of the Philanthropin in Frankfurt. Another meeting after 63 years was with 3 German ‘girls’ from the Volksschule, which was an emotional and strange encounter, at which they unburdened their guilt. How we met again is a story in itself.
You are going to celebrate your 80th birthday in Japan and S.F. In case you did not get an invitation on my 80th, I am enclosing the sentiment I enjoyed and selected which I found in France and kept for the occasion.
I am delighted to know that you are well and happy. Latest news here is that Paul (Ruth’s and Leslie’s son) won a six year scholarship to Harvard for M.A. and postgraduate studies and Stephen is off to Cambridge to read Law. Michael is on the road to qualify as a doctor. The others of different ages are enjoying school, travel, sport etc. and are towering over me.
I have been to Germany several times to show my grandchildren where I came from and the history of that time. I am happy to say that I have completed the family histories thanks to letters and documents in my possession. The books have been bound and have their CDs. I was also interviewed by the Imperial War Museum for their history archives.
We have had a good summer. I spent time at the house in France and last December joined Ruth in Israel where they have bought a house, situated on a height with cool breezes not far from the sea and close to archaeological sights of great interest.
I send you wishes for good days ahead and send you much love,
Lore.
