Dearest Rita and Lex,

It is time to write to you again.

In the first place you will be pleased to hear that Jaki’s operation was successful and she is already leading a normal life. She tires easily and needs plenty of rest but, otherwise, she copes with everyday life. No driving allowed for a year. Today, she left with Jonathan and Joseph for France to stay at the house for a couple of weeks. I hope the weather will continue to be good. Halinghen is half an hour’s drive from lovely sandy beaches and has beautiful countryside. I spent four days there just recently and did a lot of walking.

Now, as regards our holiday, I am putting together a package. As it stands at present, I hope to fly out to Milan to see my sister-in-law. From there, I can take a train direct to Kandersteg. I have bought a Senior Rail Europ Card.

Also, for some time already, I have planned to visit Thonon-les-Bains on Lake Geneva where my brother studied at the Hotel Management School. From there I want to go to Annecy where he worked at a large hotel from where he was arrested and deported to Poland. I have just finished putting together his letters and the sequence of events that led to his arrest. I will tell you the story when I see you.

What I have to work out now are dates and whether I can join you in Avignon too. I must leave this open at present.

I shall travel light and leave a few things in Milan, if necessary, to pick up on my way back.

I hope all is well with you. We shall have a lot to tell each other, won’t we. I really look forward to being with you.

I send you much love and best wishes.

Lore.
