Dearest Rita and Lex,
Thank you for your letters and pictures which I was delighted to receive. I recognised nearly everybody. Your world travels will have to come to a stop for the moment and, no doubt, you are back on homeground and getting ready for Xmas.
I have also been abroad, having an amazing time in Bulgaria. Arrived there in time for the Ecoglasnost demonstrations and the fall of Zhivkov. My various friends gave me a full and wonderful insight into life and conditions (impossible to achieve in group travel). We also went into the mountains and on my last day the snow had settled in the pine forests and quite enchanted me – so much so that I am going back to the mountains next March when sun and snow appear to be at their best.
I also did some research regarding Nick’s ancestors and fully appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication, Lex, in a similar cause!
What else can I tell you?
First and foremost that I was happy to have seen you here. Old friendships are a treasure to be treasured and improve with renewal and cementing. Come again!
I have been given instructions to be around during the Summer as Noga is expecting her second baby. Looking into the future I can see it will be a difficult job keeping tabs on everybody.
It is almost three years since Nick died, which is hard to believe. He would have enjoyed the family and be fascinated by political developments in Eastern Europe. But we are not masters of our destiny and must bow to the inevitable.
I do not want to end on a sad note. So let us look forward to a happy and healthy 1990.
I send you my love and best wishes,
Lore.
