My dear Lore,

I regret that I was unable to write to you sooner but we were very busy before the start of the holidays and I was every day on duty.  Then the holidays started and I was very happy about it.  I live as always at the Pension and my address is Pension Lochon, Thonon…  I hope you have understood everything up to now. (this was written in French)  From now on write to me at the above address.  I received your letter which gave me great pleasure.  You will not receive this letter before Sunday but I can’t do anything about it.  I also had to write to Uncle Max (Bentley, husband of Auntie Betty, grandmother Ermann’s sister).  Oma also sent me a long letter.  Please keep the stamp on the envelope.  Yesterday the sea was very turbulent.  There were waves of 1 meter, perhaps even higher.  I was in a boat with friends and it was great.  The water is still cold.  How is it with you?  Yesterday, the third year students received their diplomas since it was the last day of term.  The film Katia is on at the cinema but I couldn’t go as I was on duty.  It must be really good.  I received the two coupons and thank you for them.  Is your English more fluent now?  I wish I could speak it as well as French.  I will give you another example of rules in French grammar.

Compter to count and conter to tell, relate.  You see the M before the p and the N before the t.  I want to draw your attention to the pronunciation which is the same- namely conter.  One must know whether it refers to count or to tell.
