My dear Lore,

(English in original) To-day I will try to write to you in English.  There are 4 month I received your last letter whom was written on the 9 of August. The latest letter from Ernst arrived at the same time that your one, on the 23 of September. Since this date I never heared neither from you nor from Ernst. During this time I have written six letters to Ernst but I never received an answer. I know that is not your fault (?) but I ask me if Ernst received the letters with the others for you and uncle Max. I am sure you often have written to me. -     I am well and I hope the same from you and the relatives.  I have worked in the kitchen of a hotel but I did not make an interesting work.  The essential was to pass my Xmas holidays. - I received the marks of the first term and I am the eleventh from 20 pupils.  That is not very well but I began after the others and first I made again the work of the first scholastic year. You will seen I make better in the 2nd term.

If you can write to Ernst, do it please and ask him if he received my letters.  If you can send your letters to Switzerland, address its on the following address:

That is Lisa’s brother; I think you remember. He often writes to our grand-parents who are well. Do not forget to send me some coupons please. What do you do presently? Have you left school? Do not forget to give me your address. Do you see Elaine from time to time? I wish her a very good year. – Does aunt Eileen return to….? I beg you to wish a very good year at all the relatives, too.

Have you good passed your birthday? I often thought to you. I should been very content if you could send me your photography in your next letter, if it is possible.
Well, it is nearly midnight and I will end.  I hope you will received this letter and answer me.

(French in original) My dear Uncle Max and dear Aunt Betty.

I am going to try to send you this letter via another way and I hope that you are going to receive it.  Since September I have not heard anything more neither from Lore nor from my friend in America. I have however sent 6 letters to him with others for you and for Lore and I wonder if he has received them. – I hope that you are both in good health and I can say the same of myself. Since October I have pursued my studies and I am in the 2nd year.  I have caught up what I had forgotten quite easily and now I am learning more easily than in the 1st year. – My grandparents are in good health and that is the main thing.  – Since I came back to Thonon I have only received a single letter from you. For this reason, I would be very happy to receive another soon.
