Thonon, 13th October 1941

My dear Lore,

I have just received your letter from the 9th August and I am very happy to have your news for I hadn’t had any for at least 2 months.  The letter in which you informed me of the closing of your school is in my possession and I was very surprised to learn of it.  All the same, I believe that I can imagine life as a boarder for here too, one day passes like the next, with the sole exception maybe that one has a “free exit” on Sunday afternoons, at least the boys.

Myself, I haven’t had any news from our grandparents and I won’t get any for the moment. Have you received my letters from July, August and September?

Can you imagine that I have received some money from Mr. B. (Mum’s friend) in order to continue my studies. This will unfortunately not be as easy as that.  All the same I put in a request in September, but I have still not received any reply and the school went back on the 6th October…  So, it is necessary to wait and in waiting I’m doing the same thing as last year.

Do you still see Elaine and your friend (male) and do you receive any letters from Aunt Eileen?

My dear Lore, you told me in one of your letters that you would try to send me a little photo of yourself. Are you still thinking about it?  Me too, I am already sending you my best wishes for your birthday and I hope that we will be able to spend the next one together.

I hope to receive your news soon and if it’s possible, always send me some coupons please.

Send my best greetings to all our family and receive, my dear little sister, my best kisses.

Your Oswald

Today is grandmother’s birthday.
