Thonon, 6 August 1941

My dear Lore,

I received your letter from the 8th June safely on the 21st July and the next week your card from 25th May and I was very happy to see that you are well.  Firstly I would really like to know if you if you have received my letter from April safely, that I sent to you directly.  I receive the news fine that you send to me directly but I don’t know if you receive mine. Unfortunately I didn’t understand the phrase in English very well, but that will come as well. You didn’t understand me very well when I spoke to you about Ruth’s brother, but that doesn’t matter.

There is nothing new here. They had told us that they would close on the 1st August but this date was postponed.  It’s all the same to me, besides I wouldn’t know where I would have spent my holidays.  It has been really good weather for 3 weeks and I have taken advantage of it to go swimming. But we have a dirty climate here and now already, in August, the weather is cold and bad. I have received my new glasses and I see better now. I needed to have two pairs of glasses: one for looking far away and the other close. – I have not had any news from the grandparents and I don’t think that I will receive any.  Was my letter from the 19th July sent on to you ok?

I don’t know any more news and I am going to end my letter here. I hope that all our relatives are in good health I ask you to pass on a hello to them.

Write to me soon for that gives me more pleasure than you believe.

I give you a really strong hug,

Your Oswald
