Thonon, 25 March 1941

My dear Lore,

I want to write to you again today and I hope that you have received my three letters from January and February safely. I am going to give you some news now which will be sure to make you laugh. On the 19th March I received your card from the 22nd February safely. It is a record because it didn’t even take a month. Then,  yesterday, I received your card from the 22nd September that you had sent to Nimes.  It arrived there on the 14th March and was then sent to three other addresses before I received it (It’s another record). Then today I received your letter from the 18th January today that Ernest should have sent on to me, but he must have kept or forgotten the coupon that you had sent me. I don’t believe that it is necessary to send letters to Ernest or Edith any longer, for your letter from the 18th Jan had to go back through England. I saw that on the envelope. I am therefore going to send you this letter directly and I hope that you will receive it safely and quickly.

Have you received my last letter that I sent to Edith? I attached a photo of myself to it. It is very sad that one of your teachers died. Were you at her burial? -  I was not able to continue to learn my profession.  I have still not received the card for my birthday but it is possible that it will still arrive. How did you know my address in Nimes? Did I once write to you from down there? You know well that, Mr. B should have sent me some money.  Unfortunately he had some problems in doing so and I don’t know if he was able to send it to me. The weather was quite cold here during winter, but happily it is warmer now. You no longer make lots of mistakes in your letters and I understand them very well.  I am happy to find out that all our relatives find themselves in good health and I ask you to pass on a hello to them, above all to Uncle Max and Aunt Eileen. What does it mean that you will probably be a ‘prefect’? Our grandparents are well. I often receive their news. I will send the next letters for you to Uncle Max for I think that you will be leaving school in June and I will thus wait for your new address. What do you think that you will do after leaving school?

I hope now that this letter will find you in good health and that I am going to receive some news from you soon. I am sure that the day is coming where I will meet up with you again over there.

I give you a really strong hug,

Your Oswald

Continue to send your letters to the pension. I pass there almost every other day. Send me some coupons please.
