Tullin 29.02. 40

You might be surprised to receive my letter from here, but I find myself now in
hospital. I thought I had recovered, for I had no fever anymore, but
yesterday morning my temperature had returned to 38.7. I hope you received
my last card from Arandon. As you see, I've engaged myself for
military allowances (prestations), 180 of us left to the Chambaran two weeks ago.
You will remember that I was there in the beginning. There were only 90
people left in Arandon. They told us we will pass through a sifting commission.
This commission will decide whether they will take us for the allowances
 (prestations).

Now I have another piece of news for you. From this morning the camp of Arandon
will not exist anymore. Everyone left this morning for Loriol, (Drôme) they told us that camp is better than the one in Arandon.

Last week, I wrote a letter to Roger and asked him to send his reply
to you, when you get his letter please send it on to me. I have received a long
letter from our grand-parents and from Aunt. "Oma" (Grand-Ma) says
she has a lot of work. Lena left and Oma now has another helper. This new one comes in the morning at 7 o'clock and leaves at 4 o'clock in the afternoon but she
doesn't know how to cook properly, this is why Oma has a lot of work. Besides the grand-parents, there are six other people in the flat.

Aunt G. writes that it was so cold over there that the river was frozen. Last week, I received a letter from Mr. Bergenthal and he sent me another 100 Frs…. Misses Lochon wrote to me a card, maybe one month ago. She told me she could obtain about half of the money that I should receive from Uncle Max and that the other half would be taken for the costs of justice. I replied straight away to her, that I would not accept this. I told her to ask if the money can go back to England. So if it is not possible, I will try and obtain the return of the money when I'll be "prestataire" (worker for the army) I have asked Misses Lochon to reply to me straight away, until now I have not received an answer... I will write to her again in 2 or 3 days.
I think I have given you all the news. When you write to Aunt Eileen, say
hello to her for me. I hope you will write to me soon.
 Lots of Love from Oswald
