Later the same day.

Dear Bossy and kids,

I sent you an Express letter this morning, in the hope you will get it in 2 days, to tell you that I shall be leaving here on Friday, 11.5.73, at 3 p.m. for Rome with Alitalia and from Rome to Milan, from Milan with B.E.A. 373, leaving at about 10 p.m. I shall be arriving in London at 20 minutes past midnight – 00.20 – or about that time. In this way I am saving a night. This is my confirmation of the other letter of today’s date.

Now, there is nothing much to report. As you know when the whole family is together there is always a lot of recriminations and trouble. I am keeping right out of it all and will put you in the picture as to what is going on here when I get back.

I am very worried about Daniel – are his eyes better? We shall have to let a specialist see him and make up our minds what we should do. Has Ruth got the job from Unilever and what news have you from her? David – is he getting to settle down to a bit of work now that his Dad is away? The rest – is Simon OK and have we heard the result of Jonathan’s exam? I hope you, Bossy, can manage and have managed well and are on top of your many problems. I shall have been away from the office for a long, long time and I may find things changed – since they were on the way for change even before.  Mordi is as impossible as ever and there is little I can do to get him to be reasonable. He is here with a lot of relatives and friends and is quite childish and irresponsible and refuses to be nailed to anything definite. He is aware that he must now give account of all that goes on – also Bulgaria (did you ring them up?) and he cannot use mother, can she rest in peace, as an excuse for (unintelligible) in to everything. I must tell you all so that you will be in the picture.

With deep love to all of you and with the (unintelligible) desire to find you well and happy,
(unintelligible)
