Draft letter – undated, following Rachel’s death
May we express, through you, our sincere gratitude for the loving care and attention given to our daughter, Rachel, by (unintelligible) the staff of High Wick and especially by the Matron, Miss (unintelligible).
We are most conscious that no-one else and nowhere else could she have received such devotion and attention. Our daughter was very happy to know that she was going to High Wick where she could be with Miss T., whom she loved dearly and who reciprocated her love in full. It is a most comforting thought for us that in the last days of her life she had Miss T.’s affection, good companionship and constant care.
We were not aware of her heart condition despite the fact that she had had a complete medical examination and x-rays at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in the middle of April and had been examined regularly by our own Dr. Ausbacher and also by the School Physician.
In the last few days we have been sustained by the thought that everything that could have been done for Rachel was done for her, for which we shall be always grateful.
